Make us   Instruments

“…yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.” Rom. 6:13
A

n instrument is a means by which something is done. A musical instrument makes music. There is the violin with its strings put under great tension, without which there would be no music. Perhaps you were stretched last year and put under great tension. Rejoice and sing as God’s instrument. As He turned the key, you might have cried out, but then remembered that “all things work together for good to those who love God…” Your cry was raised to a perfect pitch of praise. Then there is the harp, often used by shepherd boys to calm the sheep or found in the hands of angels. Lord, make me an instrument. David was able to calm the troubled spirit of Saul and drive gloom away. May our lives be instruments that bring peace and joy to all who hear God plucking our strings. There are the woodwind instruments. These are made alive by the breath of those who play them. Oh, Holy Spirit, breathe on me. May my life catch the breath of God. “And God breathed into Adam and he became a living soul." God may have to make some holes in us, painful places upon which He will place his fingers to create a particular note. If there is a new “hole” in your life or heart this year, simply pray “Lord, make me an instrument of Thy will.” Say with Job, “The Lord giveth, the Lord taketh away, blessed be the name of the Lord.” Oh, Breath of God, breathe on me.” Then there is the percussion instrument, the drum, the timbrel, the tambourine. These mark the beat, set the rhythm, draw the pattern and pace of the music. The percussion section is the heart beat of the song. The drum marks and emphasizes some places and de-emphasizes other places. May it be so that our life will place the emphasis in all the right places and not on the wrong places this year. Lord, make us instruments of righteousness and as instruments, may You tune our hearts to be in harmony with Heaven. May we sing Thy grace. -id
