Faith lives in harmony with Heaven

Laws of the Moral Universe

We own what we know
We reap what we sow
We end where we go
We pay what we owe
These are laws of the moral universe

We own what we know. We are responsible for what we know. To him that knows the to do good and doeth it not to him that is sin. “To him it is sin.”  The sins of omission are enough to condemn us. Good is God’s moral gold standard for the universe. Because all have sinned, none on earth is good enough.  God does not even have to call any other witnesses to testify against us. Our own words will condemn us. Somehow, we know killing our neighbor is wrong. Just as a Robin knows how to build a Robin’s (not a bluebird’s, or a blue jay’s, but a Robin’s) nest, without ever taking a class or going to school, so man knows enough to stand “guilty” before God. To him that knoweth to do good… Beyond that, once an owner tells the boys not to play on the grass, they are without excuse. God posted His Top Ten Commandments (which everyone already knows) just so we would be without  excuse. To “own” something is to be responsible for something. Once we know it, we own it, and are responsible. Even in politics and congressional investigations, the linchpin is, what did he know, and when did he know it.

We reap what we sow. Plant onions and you will reap onions. “Be not deceived, God is not mocked. Whatsoever a man sows, that shall he also reap.” It’s God’s law. By their fruit ye shall know them. Wisdom is known by her children. Likewise fools. Chickens come home to roost We reap what we sow. “God is not mocked, whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” Jesus also said “for with the same measure that meet it shall be measured to you again.” It’s a law of the moral universe. Sow to the flesh, reap corruption. Sow to the spirit, reap life everlasting. Tares look like wheat until their head is revealed at harvest time. One can be made into nutritional bread, the other will make you ill. We can tell everyone we are planting wheat, you can tell God you are planting wheat, you can tell yourself you are planting wheat, the harvest will tell.

We end where we go. I used to say we end in the direction we point. Lot pitched his tent toward Sodom. Sometimes we come to our senses, before we move ourselves and our families into Sodom, but most don’t. What we see look at first thing in the morning and the last thing we see at the end of the day will somehow play a part on where we will end up. It is a fact we end where we go. Where are we going. Those who like Pilgrim have set out for the Celestial City, may have hardships, and trials along the way, but in the end they end where they go. Abraham was looking for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker was God. We are all going somewhere and we will end where we go.

We pay what we owe. Jesus told the parable about a man who loaned money to several men. There came a day when he called them and said “pay me what you owe me.” In this world we may declare chapter 11 and hide or protect our assets from our creditors, but even when it may appear we have beaten the system with loopholes and lawyers, God’s moral law is stronger than gravity, or electro magnetics. We all will be called to give an account. Even the Tax Collector who found Christ and forgiveness, said I will pay those I have defrauded.

We have broken God's laws. Without Jesus we have no defence. But Christ is not only our Savior, He is our advocate. He will pay our sin debt (if we have stolen someone's silverware, that's something we have to make right). If we have to cut the onions we planted, He will help wipe our tears when we have so many to cut. If we are going the wrong way, He will come and rescue us from Sodom, but we may weep trying to get Sodom out of our children. And as for paying what we owe, Jesus said "Render unto Ceasar the things that are Ceasar's and unto God, the things that are God's.

God's Will and Pleasure

(Phil. 2:13).
Each must see that burning bush
or hear God’s voice in temple’s night
or feel the Spirit’s gentle push
or see like Saul the blazing light
God has a will for every man
and a special call for all
yet without grace no sinner can
walk upright since the fall.
But grace brings each unto the cross
where they can see and hear
God’s word and count the loss
of sin in holy fear
and in that moment man can turn
and see God’s saving still
and in the love of Jesus learn
God’s wonder and God’s will. -id
