Recovered

Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.”  ( Ps. 32:1).

I

’ve got you covered.  That is what you want to hear if you are in a fire fight, and you need to make a mad dash in front of an enemy position.  “I’ve got you covered” is what you want to hear when you call your insurance broker after an accident or a hurricane.  “I’ve got you covered,” is what you want to hear when an emergency has called you away from important work that must continue, and someone steps in for you.  These words are words of encouragement.

There is such a thing as the covering of God’s grace and being under His feathers.  It is wonderful to hear God say, “Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered.”  Then there is the matter of your sin.  We really need God here.  There is so much to cover.  The Bible says that Love covers a multitude of sins.  If this is true, God’s Love must be enormous.  Isaiah describes a man trying to sleep in a bed that is too short and to cover himself with a blanket that is too narrow (Isa. 28:20).  Those kinds of nights are very long nights.  God’s Grace is large and wide enough to cover us.

The lesson is simple.  We cannot cover our sins.  Job said “If I covered my transgressions as Adam, by hiding mine iniquity in my bosom” …..then I am wrong. (Job 31:33).  Proverbs warns “he that covereth his sins will not prosper (Prov. 28:13).  Our sins must be dealt with, but we can do nothing ourselves.  We must not attempt to cover them up or hide them. We must confess them.  Then and only then God wraps his grace around us and the Blood of Christ shields us. When we were born we were uncovered (Ps. 139:13).  Someone needed to cover us.  When we were born, we were all born sinners.  Again, someone needed to cover us.  Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.”  (Ps. 32:1; Rom. 4:7).  It is as if we hear God say, “I’ve got you covered.”
